An Instagram post on Wednesday, July 22 has Kim Kardashian West confirmed her husband Kanye West has a mental health condition, Bi-polar disorder. “As many of you know Kanye has Bi-polar disorder.” She said.

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a mental health condition that causes mood shifts and extreme alterations in energy and activity levels.

This couple has been married since 2014 and has four children. Kanye is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, composer, and fashion designer. The 43-year-old music star is currently attempting to run for US president.

Her comment came after Kanye appeared at a presidential campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Sunday, in which he emotionally spoke about his faith, his late mother and his family, attracting media attention.

Kim said ‘Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.’ He is a “brilliant but complicated person” whose “words sometimes do not align with his intentions.” She said.

Kanye has in 2019 revealed to David Letterman, an American television host, that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and explained his experiences with the mental health condition.

Kim said “I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.”

She kindly asks that the media and public give her family the compassion and empathy that is needed so that they can get through the challenge.

Her statement concludes, “We as a society talk about giving grace to the issue of mental health as a whole, however, we should also give it to the individuals who are living with it in times when they need it the most.”
