Accompanied by the Senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Atiku Abubakar on 17 January arrived Washington D.C., the American capital. The trip became necessary as part of the design to gather more public confidence in his aspiration for the most exalted position of the president of the federal republic.
For over a decade Mr. Atiku Abubakar has not visited the U.S. His delay to visit a country he once lived may be attributed to an allegation that is widely believed to be in connection with corruption charges filed in the U.S against him.
The trip however afforded him opportunities to do his bidding for support in a number of forums ahead of the upcoming general elections.
It is still unclear whether Mr. Atiku Abubakar met with the U.S. government authorities.
